The Cutting Garden Diary – April

April in the cutting garden is all about the return of abundance. The tulips are in full bloom, their bold colors and elegant forms inspiring vibrant wedding arrangements for couples seeking that perfect springtime romance in the Lake District.

This is the month where everything starts to accelerate. The greenhouse is filling up with young plants, and I’ve begun planting out the first of the hardy annuals – cornflowers, calendula, and nigella. Each seedling feels like a little promise of the blooms to come. April is also the time for sowing the tender annuals – cosmos, zinnias, and snapdragons – all of which will bring that wild, whimsical touch to my summer arrangements. There’s so much hope in the garden right now, as each day brings more growth, more color, and more life.

April weddings are all about embracing the season, and tulips, ranunculus, and anemones bring the perfect mix of texture and color to create those effortlessly romantic bouquets. These flowers are ideal for couples wanting to celebrate the natural beauty of spring in their wedding florals.

For couples getting married in the coming months, now is the time to start thinking about how seasonal flowers can elevate your wedding day. Whether you envision loose, garden-inspired designs or more classic arrangements, I design florals that capture the wild, untamed spirit of the Lake District while bringing your unique vision to life.

The weather is still unpredictable – we’ve had a mix of sunshine and showers – but the garden doesn’t seem to mind. Everything is growing, and with it, my excitement for the months ahead.

Until next month,

Katie x
