The Cutting Garden Diary – July

July in the Lake District feels like the heart of the season, where everything in the cutting garden is in full bloom and buzzing with life. The dahlias are in full swing, adding bold color and dramatic flair to my summer wedding designs. Perfect for couples wanting their Lake District wedding to feel vibrant, joyful, and bursting with life.

This is the time of year when the garden really shows off. The roses are heavy with blooms, romantic petals are a staple in my wedding arrangements this month. I’ve been pairing them with sweet peas, which are at their peak, spilling over their supports in pastel colors. The combination of the two is just magic – delicate, whimsical, and bursting with that effortless, wild beauty I love so much.

With weddings in full swing, it feels like every moment is spent in the garden or the studio, gathering blooms and creating arrangements that reflect the joy of this season. Each bouquet feels like a little celebration of summer – wild, free, and full of life. I’ve been drawn to a lot of loose, airy arrangements lately, letting the flowers speak for themselves, with plenty of trailing vines and unexpected textures to keep things interesting.

July is also the month of long, peaceful evenings in the garden. After a day of weddings and flowers, I find myself wandering through the rows as the sun sets, appreciating the quiet beauty of the garden. There’s something so grounding about being in this space, surrounded by the fruits of the season’s labor.

As we move deeper into summer, I’m savoring every bloom, every heady scent, and every moment of warmth. The garden feels alive with possibility, and I’m reminded daily of why I chose this work – to create beauty from the natural world and share it with others in such a special way.

For couples planning their wedding in the height of summer, July offers the perfect opportunity to embrace the season’s abundance. From large, showstopping arrangements to more intimate, garden-inspired bouquets, I work closely with each couple to create florals that capture the magic of your wedding day.

Until next month,

Katie x
